In the heart of Silicon Valley, we are are so happy to welcome you at our home! The Bay Area is known to be easy-going and we are hoping for a chill vibe more than anything.
THURSDAY APRIL 11
We realize that some of our guests are traveling from far for our wedding, and we love spending some extra time with them! Rather than an (American) traditional "rehearsal dinner" we will welcome our traveling guests on Thursday 11 April at 19:30h (7:30 pm) at Terun Pizzeria ( 448 California Avenue in Palo Alto).
Please dress warm. Palo Alto gets chilly at night.
FRIDAY APRIL 12 FROM 3 - 8 PM
First Lutheran Church of Palo Alto
Join us as we say our vows, eat pie, and enjoy our time together.
The wedding ceremony is at First Lutheran Church in Palo Alto (600 Homer Ave) and will start at 15:00h. The building will be open at least 15 minutes before. After the service (around 16:00h) we would love it if you join us at our reception in the assembly hall of the church with dinner and drinks.
Dress Code: Cocktail Attire
Not sure what that means? Check out this article as a guide. The weather in Palo Alto fluctuates throughout the day so you may want to dress in layers. Most importantly wear what makes you comfortable and don't feel the need to buy anything new to wear!
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY
As many of our guests will be from out of town, we have set up a Whatsapp group to help our visitors coordinate activities together. Lodewijk is happy to show people around at Stanford campus on Thursday morning, some are looking at visiting the Computer History Museum and some of us will visit Muir Woods on Saturday (You may have to arrange your own transportation/parking reservations).
We'll try to put our frequent questions here, as they come up.
There are three airports within driving distance: San Francisco (SFO), San Jose (SJC) and Oakland (OAK). It will depend on where you're flying from, which is most convenient.
If you're flying internationally, you probably want to make sure that this is your first airport in the US (rather than changing somewhere). It is faster and saves hassle at immigration/customs.
Palo Alto is walkable and bikeable with some limited public transportation. Palo Alto has two train stations that take you to and from San Francisco or San Jose. We live closest to Palo Alto Station.
Warning: Caltrain will shut down part of Sat 13 and Sun 14 April in our area for maintenance. Check status updates if you're planning to use it.
There are many car rental shops in the area. This may be a good option if you would like to view the more scenic areas of Northern California such as the mountains or redwood forests.
We wish that we could welcome you literally in our home! Unfortunately, that won't fit.
Palo Alto has many hotels, but they are often expensive - you may want to look into renting a car and getting around if you're staying a little, and AirBnB may be worthwhile considering.
Make sure to book well in advance.
California has many beautiful landmarks, and San Francisco and the Bay have much to offer culturally. We'll try to include a few links to websites with suggestions about what you could do. If you run across particularly good overviews, shoot us an email!
Insider tip: Stanford Theater is showing the weekend of our wedding the classic 1957 movie "Silk Stockings" with Fred Astaire and Dutch actor and comedian Wim Sonneveld!
So many fun dining options in Palo Alto! The University Ave area has the most options closeby. Unfortunately 'hang out' spots are limited in the evenings.
We'll start a Whatsapp group the-week-off so that people can coordinate/share, if they like.
How cold/warm is it? Well, that really depends on your perspective. Make sure to bring layers because while the days are often warm in April, the evenings can get chilly! No need for snow boots.
Should I bring treats for Gouda? Gouda says meow, but only individually packaged, and don't feed her without permission.
Can I get a photo session with Gouda? Please negotiate appropriate compensation with Gouda's IP manager Emily.
